Summer Update

I haven't posted for a while. My bad. So, here's a quick update on the Walker Family:

Sadie turned 8 in May and she was baptized on May 29th. She was just beaming the whole day. It was wonderful--especially with friends from our old ward there to support us. Thank you, friends! Now she is attending Achievement Days and loves it!

School ended June 10th and the kids are loving it. Patrick and Alex went to Scout Camp at the end of June and had a great time. Kalin was asked last minute to be a lifeguard for our old stake's scout camp this week. We decided to let him drive himself and, with a minor fender bender on the way, ended up getting there safely. I sure hope it's less eventful coming home.

We've been doing a lot of boating, wakeboarding, and swimming. We love living near a good-sized lake. We've had a few run-ins with summer storms, but mostly enjoy lovely weather. The pool in our neighborhood is nice to have, too. It's small, but who cares when it's free!

John has started a diet/exercise program. He wants to weigh under 200 lbs. by his birthday. I know he can do it because he's that type of person. It's already coming off fast and he's developing some of those muscles he used to have. Looking good! I'm partially participating by eating smaller portions and only occasionally having sugar. Minor success so far.

I've had a very eventful medical year. I started it out with a colonoscopy in February. A fairly simple procedure but hate the pre-prep. At the end of March, I had an endomitrial ablation done, hoping to cure my extra long monthly 'Aunt Flo' visits. Unfortunately, it didn't work as planned (I'm one of the lucky 5% for whom it doesn't work). When I had the procedure done, they took some tissue samples to check for cancer. On my follow-up visit, my doctor told me they found some potential cancer cells, but that they were on the lowest scale possible. Still...not sounding good to me. When we knew for sure that the procedure hadn't worked a month later, his advice was to get a hysterectomy. Since I don't like the sound of cancer at all and my other problem hadn't been solved, I agreed with him. So, July 2nd I had surgery and had a hysterectomy. They removed all but one ovary in a newer procedure that has a shorter recovery time. It's been 10 days and I'm feeling good, but still a little weak. I made it to Sacrament Meeting yesterday, but that was all I could handle. I don't mind. It means I get to order everyone else around and I get to rest, read, nap, etc. Good times.

My Mom and Dad are arriving tomorrow night and staying for 10 days. I am so excited! It's been over a year since I saw Mom and 2 years since I saw Dad. I sure miss living near them and all the rest of the family. I just hope we don't sweat to death in this hot, humid Florida summer weather. One thing I wanted to do this summer was to visit interesting Florida places we've never seen. With my parents here, we'll go up to Tallahassee and see where they used to live, work, the capital and whatever else there is up there. We also need to go to some beaches before they're closed down from the oil spill. Joy. I'm sure my Dad will have many ideas for where we can go.

Nice update Janis. I'm sorry you had surgery, which is always scary, but glad you made it through okay. I'm still having the monthly cycles, but the heavy flow and duration is easing up a bit (thank goodness). Have a great visit with mom and dad! I would love to revisit Tallahassee with y'all. I have lots of memories of that place.
